Make it a ritual

The thought of studying is almost always worse than the revision itself. We have a tendency to create terrible mental pictures of how difficult or boring studying will be, so that we never feel like starting work.

If you can get into the habit of sitting down to study in the same place at the same time each day, you’ll find yourself starting work without consciously having to think about it. You won’t have time to dwell on the negative aspects of revision and resistance won’t have chance to build up.

You can make this easier by leaving your workspace ready so that it’s easy to begin studying straight away. If you have to hunt through every drawer in the house for your textbooks or a highlighter pen before you can begin, you’ll have more time to make excuses and avoid revising.
